Chosen

Think with your heart and prepare to die...for you have been Chosen.
Thomas Hunter, supreme commander of the Forest Guard has seen a great evil decimate much of his beautiful world. With a dwindling army and an epic threat, Thomas is forced to supplement his fighters with new recruits aged 16 and 17. From thousands, four will be chosen to lead a special mission.
Unknown to Thomas, the chosen for are redirected to a different endgame. They must find the seven Lost Book of History before the Dark One. For these seven books have immense power over the past, present and future, controlling not only the destiny of their world...but of ours as well.

Darkness
First of all these were great books. Amazing story, great characters and exciting action. However, these books are not for the faint of heart.
Evil is depicted as grotesquely as you can imagine it; great black bats with red eyes, their fur mangled and falling off, fangs as large as your hand, dripping with venom. Evil is depicted vividly and with stark realism. I for one am not bothered by the dark side being...well...DARK. Evil is evil, what did you expect it to be? But I realize that this imagery may disturb some people. I have been rereading everything for the blog, and I actually think that the Shataiki get more 'screen time' in the YA books than in the Adult books!
Violence
As you may imagine, this book has a bit of violence in it. As this book is just the beginning, it does not delve too deeply into the whole war thing, but in the beginning, new recruits are chosen by playing a demented version of football. The ball being hordehair, and everyone bearing large sticks to beat their opponents.
Sexual Content
There is no sex stuff in these books, however there is a lot of romance. Silvie and Johnis kiss once I think.

It is my opinion that the book is good for 12+, but please use good judgement. If you are a parent and are unsure, please read it first. These books are extremely good, I enjoyed them very much. However, I realize that not all people like their bad guys to be terrifying. :) After reading the Circle, I realized that this series is actually darker than the adult. Go figure!
Rated PG for violence and darkness.
Happy Reading!
